A study conducted at the University of Irvine, California suggests that it is possible to be able to predict if a woman is likely to suffer from post partum depression based on the levels of corticotrophin releasing hormone at around 25 weeks of gestation. This hormone regulates the body's response to stress and is usually secreted in very small quantities. This can be used to decide if an early intervention or preventive measures need to be taken to avoid ppd.
