Generally mothers who are breastfeeding will find a delay in the return to their menstrual cycles. This is because prolactin, a hormone released during pregnancy, does not allow the return of the period. A lot of other factors such as the mother's age, the number of times a baby is breastfed, the duration for which the baby feeds etc. affect the menstrual cycle.
