Post birth bleeding should ideally last between two and six weeks. But there are mothers who have reported having it for 7 to 12 weeks also. Strenuous physical work can cause the bleeding to continue for longer. Mode of delivery is also a factor in determining the length of the bleeding - caesarean deliveries mean longer bleeding than vaginal deliveries.
