A study published in Gerontology in 2001 studied the effect of low protein intake during pregnancy and its effect on aging and lifespan in offspring in rats. The research showed that inadequate protein in prenatal diet caused offspring to have reduced life spans. The offspring were also smaller in size and had higher systolic blood pressure.
