According to a study published in American Journal of Perinatology, there are 3 different colour patterns in post birth bleeding:
Type 1 is the regular pattern experienced by most women who breastfeed : rubra->serosa->alba
Type 2 may occur in women who do not breastfeed : prolonged rubra->short serosa->short alba
Type 3 shows red discharge twice : rubra->serosa/alba-> rubra->serosa/alba
