Until a baby reaches 6 months of age, its energy requirements are about 100-110 kcal/kg/day. From there until it reaches 1 year of age, its requirement goes down to 90-100 kcal/kg/day. It uses this energy for metabolism, physical activities and growth. Supplementary food may be started for the baby after it is 6 months of age.
