The purpose of screening for ovarian cancer is to detect stage ONE because at the early stage ovarian cancer is most curable. The screening consists of:
* A blood test for search of the marker CA-125
* Transvaginal ultrasound
* Combinations of markers such as OvaSure (LabCorp).
The definitive diagnosis relies on biopsy (surgical removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes) followed by pathological examination and a positive screening test must be followed by surgery.
